A Mother's Love: Music for Mary
UCJ4766295
Here is a story of devotion, faith and love. Mary, daughter of Anne, wife of Joseph, became the mother of Jesus. Countless Christian worshippers have known her as the Mother of Mercy, the Mother of Sorrows, the Mother of God. Mary's image has been used and adapted across two millennia, giving rise to cults of the Blessed Virgin, popular traditions, sectarian divisions and a wealth of art works directly inspired by her. An uncountable number of Marian compositions underpin the foundations of western classical music, from simple hymns of praise to grand settings of the Magnificat. A Mother's Love takes the listener on a journey, both historical and spiritual, charting the course of Marian music over ten centuries.
